Future Venous Specialists Start Here

The International Student Venous Triathlon 2026 is a new educational initiative organized by SURSO NKUA (Surgical Society of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) in collaboration with Venous Symposium Europe.

Working in teams of two, participants will develop their clinical reasoning, technical skills and teamwork while learning alongside internationally recognized experts in venous and lymphatic disease.

Why Participate?

The International Student Venous Triathlon has been designed to inspire the next generation of venous specialists by combining:

• Interactive, case-based learning
• Hands-on surgical and endovascular simulation
• Clinical decision-making
• Teamwork and communication
• Direct interaction with international faculty

This is more than a competition - it is an immersive educational experience that bridges medical school and clinical practice.

The Three-Day Challenge

Over three consecutive days, all participating teams rotate through a series of practical stations that explore every stage of venous care.

Day 1

Venous Diagnostic Challenge

Develop your diagnostic skills through:

• Venous duplex interpretation
• Clinical case challenges
• Venous devices and treatment matching

Day 2

Venous Surgical Skills Challenge

Gain practical experience in:

• Ultrasound-guided venous access
• Venous patch angioplasty
• Venous intervention planning

Day 3

Venous Endovascular Challenge

Put your knowledge into practice with:

• The Venous Patient Journey
• Endovascular simulation

Procedure planning and device selection

Competition Format

A total of 24 undergraduate medical students (12 teams of two) will participate.

Unlike traditional competitions, all teams remain active throughout the entire workshop. Scores are accumulated over the three days, encouraging continuous learning, collaboration and progressive skill development.

Who Can Apply?

The workshop is open to:

• undergraduate medical students in their clinical years
• Students with an interest in surgery, vascular surgery, interventional radiology or venous disease
• Teams of two (choose your teammate)

The official language of the workshop is English.
